Radhika Apte is an Indian film and theatre actress. She has worked in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam films. She was nominated for SIIMA Award in the category of Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the film Dhoni (Tamil). Radhika is a trained contemporary dancer.
Early Life of Radhika Apte
She was born on 7th September 1985 in Pune, Maharastra, India. Her father, Dr. Charudutt Apte, is Pune`s leading neurosurgeon and chairman of Sahyadri Hospital. She earned her degrees in economics and mathematics from Fergusson College, Pune.
Career of Radhika Apte
Radhika made her debut in the glamour industry in the year 2005 with the Mahesh Manjrekar directed Hindi film Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! The film featured her in a small role. In the following year, she appeared in a Bengali film Antaheen where she essayed the role of a TV journalist opposite Rahul Bose.
Her next was a Marathi project titled Gho Mala Asla Hava by Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar. The movie, which released in 2009, featured her in the role of a village girl. In the same year, she worked in three more films including Jatin Wagle`s Ek Marathi Manoos, Akash Khurana`s Life Online and Amol Palekar`s Marathi film, Samaantar. In 2010, she worked in Maneej Premnath`s thriller The Waiting Room and Ram Gopal Varma`s Rakta Charitra and its sequel. In 2011, she worked in two Hindi films including I Am and Shor in the City. In the same year, she again worked with Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar on the Marathi film Ha Bharat Majha. The film is inspired by Anna Hazare`s movement. It was screened at various film festivals. In 2012, she worked in a Tamil/ Telugu film Dhoni and a Marathi film Tukaram. For Dhoni, she was nominated for SIIMA Award in the category of Best Actress in a Supporting Role. In 2013, she again worked in a Bengali film titled Rupkatha Noy.
In 2014, she appeared in four movies in four different languages including Postcard (Marathi), Pendulum (Bengali), Legend (Telugu), Vetri Selvan (Tamil) and Lai Bhaari (Marathi). Her next projects were Sriram Raghavan directed Badlapur and Harshavardhan Kulkarni directed Hunter.
She is also involved with theatre. She is associated with Mohit Takalkar`s theatre troupe Aasakta in her hometown. She has acted in plays like Tu, Purnaviram, Matra Ratra and Samuel Beckett`s That Time with Rehan Engineer. She has also acted in a Hindi play named Kanyadaan and an English play named Bombay Black. In 2013, she was part of a Marathi play named Uney Purey Shahar Ek, which was an adaptation of Girish Karnad`s Benda Kaalu on Toast.
Radhika has also acted in a number of short films including Vakratunda Swaha, which was filmed by Ashish Avikunthak over a period of 12 years. She was a part of Anurag Kashyap`s short film titled That Day After Everyday. The film, based on eve teasing, was released in YouTube in 2012.
Personal Life of Radhika Apte
Radhika tied the knot with British musician Benedict Taylor in September 2012 whom she met in 2011 when she had gone to learn contemporary dance in London.
