Fergusson College, PuneFergusson College is one of the most reputed colleges of Pune. This college has 125 years of history as the flagship of higher education in Pune. Spread over 65 acres Fergusson College is situated in the heart of the city with an old pattern building. The college has one of the best libraries in Pune, which maintains some rarest of the rare books. Fergusson College not only provides quality education. It also focuses on students` thorough growth through various activities throughout the year. Fergusson College is affiliated to the University of Pune and it was accredited `A` grade by NAAC. Fergusson College offers a three tier package, beginning with the Junior college that caters to students passing out from school. Comprehensive courses are offered in both Arts and Science streams, preparing students to launch out into professional courses or continue on towards graduate studies in the Senior College.

Objective of Fergusson College
The main objective behind the establishment of Fergusson College was to bring about social reforms and as a potent instrument for national regeneration. The main aim of the college is to aspire and strive for excellence in education by developing and sharpening the intellectual and human potential of learners for the benefit of the society at large. Fergusson College strives to impart quality education through different traditional and innovative learning practices. It also aims at providing a dynamic and creative academic environment, for nurturing talent for the development of professional skills and an all round personality of the students. Further, it also tries to inculcate good moral values and a sense of nationalism among the students.

History of Fergusson College
Fergusson College has a glorious history. The founders of the Fergusson College had first started the New English School, Pune in 1880 and later established the Deccan Education Society (DES) in the year 1884. It was followed by the bold step to start the first ever privately managed college in India, on 2nd of January 1885, naming it as Fergusson College. History of the college suggests that the name of the college was given in appreciation of the support of Sir James Fergusson, the then Governor of Mumbai. The college received affiliation of the University of Mumbai and began its onward march in higher education with the opening of the Arts classes, followed in 1892, with the science classes.

Courses Offered at Fergusson College
Fergusson College has earned an enviable reputation in teaching and research in Science as well as in the Humanities streams. Students have a wide range of subjects to choose from in the Junior College as well as in Senior College wings. Fergusson College conducts classes from Standard XI to Post Graduation. Certain departments provide research facilities leading to M. Phil and Ph.D. The major courses offered at Fergusson College include Bachelor of Science in subjects like Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronic Science, Environment Science, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, and Zoology. The college also offers Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Psychology, Political Science, English, French, Geography, Hindi, History, Marathi, Philosophy, Sociology, etc. Fergusson College also offers M.A and M. Sc courses at the post graduate level. Several vocational courses like Vocational Still Photography and Audio-Visual Production, Vocational Electronic Equipment Maintenance and Vocational Biotechnology are also offered at Fergusson College.

Infrastructure of Fergusson College
Fergusson College has a scenic green campus. Large playgrounds, tennis courts, Botanical Garden and spacious hostel buildings are some of the facilities that this college offers. Fergusson College offers accommodation facilities. Tennis courts, badminton and basketball court, Gymnasium, well equipped library, Canteen, Auditorium, Cultural and Medical Facility are some of the other facilities offered by Fergusson College.

Ex-Fergussonian Association (EFA) is the Alumni Association, the organisation for former students, faculty and staff - collectively. The Alumni Association provides a forum for alumni to maintain and develop their links with the college. This association encourages present as well as past students to remain part of the Fergusson family.
