Rahul Bose is an internationally acclaimed actor, screenwriter, film director, social activist, and rugby union player. Apart from being a brilliant film personality, he is known to feel for the society and humanity at its fullest. He is closely involved with a number of social causes. He founded the anti-discrimination NGO - The Foundation. His works in both commercial as well as parallel cinema has received huge appreciations and he was called "The Superstar Of Indian Art House Cinema" by Time magazine and "the Sean Penn of Oriental Cinema" by Maxim.

Early Life of Rahul Bose
Rahul Bose was born in July 27, 1967 to Rupen and Kumud Bose. He spent his early childhood in Kolkata and later in Mumbai which made him deep rooted to both the cultures. He is an alumnus of the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai. Rahul Bose graduated from Sydenham College. He regularly played international rugby in the National Orange Indian Rugby Team. He left his job as a creative director at Rediffusion to take up the profession of acting, writing, and directing seriously.

Career of Rahul Bose
Rahul Bose made his debut in acting career at the tender age of six; when he played the lead character Tom, the Piper`s Son in his school play. He also performed on the Bombay stage as well as in foreign venues. One of the outstanding performances delivered was at the Leicester Haymarket in England where he starred in Tim Murari`s The Square Circle. His first film was `English, August` that became a cult favourite. He played the character of Agastya Sen. The film earned him international recognition as it was the first Indian film to be purchased by 20th Century Fox, winning numerous accolades at international film festivals. Other notable films by Rahul Bose include Kaizad Gustad`s Bombay Boys and Split Wide Open. Other outstanding films in the career of Rahul Bose are Mr. and Mrs. Iyer opposite Konkona Sen and multi starrer comedy flick Jhankaar Beats. Rahul Bose is always seen in offbeat films with weighty characters.

Rahul Bose also did mainstream movies like Thakshak along side Tabu, Chameli with Kareena Kapoor, Pyaar Ke Side Effects and Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam with Mallika Sherawat, Dil Kabaddi and Mumbai Matinee. His performances in the films `Shaurya` and `I Am` have been credited amongst his finest works. He has also acted with Konkona in 15 Park Avenue. He has acted in many Bengali movies like Kaalpurush (2008), The Japanese Wife, Anuranan and Antaheen. In the film Anuranan he has also done playback singing for a song. Rahul Bose participated in the reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi and also anchored the second series of the Bloomberg UTV reality show The Pitch. Rahul Bose marked his directional debut in the year 2001 with the film Everybody Says I`m Fine! featuring Koel Purie and Rehaan Engineer. Although the film received mixed reviews, it earned him the runner-up John Schlesinger Award for best directorial debut at the 2003 Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Other Ventures of Rahul Bose
Rahul Bose has always been actively involved in social work. He assisted the relief works in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands after the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami and launched a scholarship program through his NGO which provides education to the underprivileged children of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He also works for many charitable organizations including Spastics Society of India, Citizens for Justice and Peace, Breakthrough, Akshara Centre and Teach for India. He has also founded the umbrella organisation for 51 Mumbai charitable organisations and NGOs named The Group of Groups. He has also worked for fundraising for the victims of the Sikkim earthquake, in association with Bhaichung Bhutia. Rahul Bose is also the ambassador for Planet Alert, the World Youth Peace Movement and the American India Foundation. The lectures on gender equality and human rights given by Rahul Bose at Oxford and during the 2004 World Youth Peace Summit was attended by thousands and praised throughout. Moreover, Rahul Bose was selected as the first Indian Oxfam global ambassador in 2007.

Achievements of Rahul Bose
Several awards have been conferred upon this versatile actor and director. He won the Best Asian Actor Award at the Singapore International Film Festival for Split Wide Open in 2000. In 2003 he got The John Schlesinger Honorable Mention Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival for Everybody Says I`m Fine! and also the Mani Kaul Award for Outstanding Filmmaking for the same. He was awarded the Mahesh Bhatt Spokesperson Award in 2005. In 2007 he received the Artiste for Change Karmaveer Puraskaar award. The IBN Citizen Journalist Award was conferred upon to him in 2008. In 2009 he got the Idea International Indian Film Academy Green Award and the Youth Icon Award for Social Justice and Welfare. In 2010 he received the Green Globe Foundation Award for Extraordinary Work by a Public Figure. In 2012 he received Hakim Khan Sur Award for National Integration by Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation and Lt. Governor`s Commendation Award for services to Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
