Padmini Kolhapure is a popular Indian actress who has starred in a number of Bollywood films. She has also done playback singing for several movies. She entered the film arena in the year 1975 through the movie Ishq Ishq Ishq. The actress rose to fame in the period of 1980s when she played lead roles in numerous Hindi movies and established herself as a powerful actress. Early Life of Padmini Kolhapure
Padmini Kolhapure belongs to a Maharashtrian family. She was born on 1st November 1965. Her father namely Pandharinath Kolhapure is a classical singer from Kolhapur and her mother, who used to work for the airlines, is from Mangalore. Dinanath Mangeshkar, the father of famed singers Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar, was the first cousin of Padmini`s father.
Career of Padmini Kolhapure
Padmini Kolhapure got acquainted with the entertainment industry at a very young age when she did playback singing in chorus for the movies like Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Dushman Dost and Kitab. Later she also sang for her own films including Sadak Chaap, Hum Intezaar Karenge and Vidhaata. She also released a music album named `Music Lovers` with Bappi Lahiri. In 1986 Padmini performed with Baapi Lahiri and his troupe at the Royal Albert Hall, London, for the Greater London Council.
Padmini Kolhapure`s name was first suggested by Asha Bhosle to Dev Anand who featured her in the movie Ishq Ishq Ishq in 1975. This paved her way for her successful career in Bollywood. Her following ventures included movies like Dreamgirl, Zindagi and Saajan Bina Suhagan. Her performance in the movie Gehrayee was well appreciated where she portrayed the role of a school girl inflicted by black magic. As Padmini started taking up more roles in movies, her mother quitted her airlines job to support her acting career. Among her roles as child artist Raj Kapoor`s movie Satyam Shivam Sundaram earned her great fame. Her first movie as a female lead was Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai where she appeared alongside Rishi Kapoor. The same duo also appeared in Raj Kapoor`s film Prem Rog for which the actress received huge accolades. She was known for her dedication towards work. Her box office hits included movies like Vidhaata, Souten, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Woh Saat Din and many more.
Padmini Kolhapure took a break from movies for a short period of time and returned back in 2004 with Marathi movies. She has also enacted in South Indian movies. Padmini`s career in film industry continued with the movies Bolo Raam, Karmayogi, Mai, Phata Poster Nikla Hero and many more.
Achievements of Padmini Kolhapure
Padmini Kolhapure received several awards for her skilful portrayal of characters in movies. In 1980 she won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her movie Insaaf Ka Tarazu whereas in 1982 she won Filmfare Best Actress Award for Prem Rog. In the year 2003 she was honoured with Kalakar Award - Achiever Award. She also won Star Screen Best Actress Award for Marathi movie Chimnee Pakhre in 2006.
