Filmfare Award for Best Supporting ActressFilmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress is one of the four acting awards in Filmfare Awards, along with Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor, presented to the actress who gives the most appealing and touching performance in a supporting role in a Hindi film of the preceding year. The category was introduced in the following year of the commencement of Filmfare Awards, along with the Best Supporting Actor award in 1955.

The Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress has been most frequently won by 5 veteran actresses, namely Nirupa Roy, Farida Jalal, Jaya Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and Supriya Pathak, all having won 3 times. Actresses Shashikala, Simi Garewal, Raakhee, Rohini Hattangadi, Aruna Irani and Konkona Sen Sharma have won this award twice, with Aruna Irani holding the maximum nominations under the category at 10. Actress Bindu has the most number of nominations without ever winning, with 7. The oldest nominee and winner in this category is Durga Khote who was nominated and had won at 70 years of age, the youngest being Ayesha Kapur at 11 years of age.

Actresses Vyjayanthimala and Reena Roy refused to accept this award for their roles in Devdas (1955) and Apnapan (1977) respectively, citing their roles were leading and not supporting.

Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress at 61st Filmfare Awards
The 61st Filmfare Awards held in January 2016 nominated 6 actresses for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress, for supporting performances in their films of 2015, namely Priyanka Chopra for "Bajirao Mastani", Anushka Sharma for "Dil Dhadakne Do", Huma Qureshi for "Badlapur", Shefali Shah for "Dil Dhadakne Do", Tabu for "Drishyam" and Tanvi Azmi for "Bajirao Mastani".

The award was presented to Priyanka Chopra, for her outstanding and heart-warming portrayal of Kashibai, first wife of Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao I, in "Bajirao Mastani". The character demanded a mature portrayal which Chopra fulfilled.
