Filmfare Award for Best ActressFilmfare Award for Best Actress is given by Filmfare, a tabloid monthly magazine in English on the Hindi film industry or Bollywood, in its annually held Filmfare Awards. This award recognizes the performance of a female actor in a leading role in a Hindi film released in the preceding year. It is a coveted title amongst the Filmfare Awards categories and is presented to the actress who performs her character and role with utmost conviction, naturalness and grace. It was first given in 1954 in the very inception of Filmfare Awards.

Actress Meena Kumari too has won 4 times, while Vyjayanthimala, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Vidya Balan hold three wins each.

Versatile actress Rani Mukerji is a noted winner in the Filmfare acting awards. She is the first and only actress to have won the Best Actress and the Best Supporting Actress awards in the same year, in 2005, for her performances in films "Hum Tum" and "Yuva" respectively.
