Filmfare Award for Best Actress is given by Filmfare, a tabloid monthly magazine in English on the Hindi film industry or Bollywood, in its annually held Filmfare Awards. This award recognizes the performance of a female actor in a leading role in a Hindi film released in the preceding year. It is a coveted title amongst the Filmfare Awards categories and is presented to the actress who performs her character and role with utmost conviction, naturalness and grace. It was first given in 1954 in the very inception of Filmfare Awards.
