Ek Duuje Ke Liye is a Hindi movie released in the year 1981. The movie is directed by K. Balachander and featured Kamal Hassan and Rati Agnihotri as lead characters. Ek Duuje Ke Liye is a love story of a youthful romance between a South Indian boy and a North Indian girl, troubled and thwarted by their parents. The film was labelled a "Blockbuster Hit" at the box office in 1981. Ek Duuje Ke Liye was a remake of a Telugu film "Maro Charitra" in 1978. With this movie, Kamal Hassan made his debut in Hindi cinema which also earned him his first Filmfare Hindi language nomination. Ek Duuje Ke Liye is considered one of the finest romantic films of all the times till date.

Plot of Ek Duuje Ke Liye
The story of Ek Duuje Ke Liye begins on a romantic genre where a Tamil boy Vasu played by Kamal Hassan and North Indian girl Sapna played by Rati Agnihotri fall in love. Although they come from totally different backgrounds and can hardly speak the other"s language, their love for each other is unfathomable. However their families are against each other and being neighbours fight over trivial issues. When Vasu and Sapna declare their love for each other their parents refuse to give their consent.

In order to separate the lovers their parents place a condition before Vasu and Sapna. They are asked to stay away from each other for a year and even after that they feel the same way then they will be allowed to get married. Vasu travels away to Hyderabad. Both the lovers suffer the pangs of separation so that they can be united forever. While Vasu is at Hyderabad he befriends Sandhya played by Madhavi, a widow who teaches him Hindi. In the meanwhile Chakram played by Rakesh Bedi, whom Sapna"s mother has selected for her, comes to Goa and proposes but she rejects him.

Meanwhile, Vasu returns and misunderstands Sapna. Disappointed and angry he goes back to Hyderabad and agrees to marry Sandhya. The latter comes to know about Sapna and clears the confusion between them. He once again returns to Goa and wins over Sapna`s parents. On the other hand Sandhya`s brother played by Raza Murad believes that Vasu is responsible for his sister`s woos and hires goons to kill him. After meeting the parents while Vasu is on his way to meet Sapna he is attacked by these goons and beaten up mercilessly. Sapna also meets a tragedy as she is raped in a temple and left to die. Yet they manage to meet each other and commit suicide by jumping from a cliff.
