Ajay Ratra is an Indian cricket player, who mainly plays as a right-handed batsman and wicketkeeper. Born on 13th December 1981 in Faridabad, he has played both domestic as well as international cricket. In the year 2000 he got selected for the first intake of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He made his Test debut in the international cricket arena in 2002 against West Indies. In the match he was credited to be the youngest wicketkeeper to make a century in Tests when he scored an innings of 115 not out against the West Indies. He was also appreciated as the second Indian wicketkeeper to make an overseas century. He also marked his One Day International debut in the same year against England.
In the same year, in 2002, Ajay Ratra suffered an injury and was replaced by Parthiv Patel who was the youngest ever Test wicketkeeper. Since then he lagged behind Dinesh Karthik, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Patel in the pecking order. Ajay Ratra has also been a part of the Indian Under-19 squad which won the Youth World Cup in 2000. In the following season the team won over England in a home series under his captaincy.
Following his training sessions with the National Cricket Academy under the guidance of Syed Kirmani and Rod Marsh he owned the credit of being one of the six wicketkeepers that India would attempt to integrate into the squad in the space of 12 months. He also plays in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as a representative of Goa.
