Hetul Shah, Indian Chess PlayerHetul Shah is a young talent born in the year 1999. He is a gifted Indian chess player and at the age of nine he became the youngest person to defeat a grandmaster in chess at a standard (non-fast chess) time control when he defeated Nurlan Ibrayev of Kazakhstan on 11th January 2009 at the 7th Parsvnath International Open chess tournament in round one. Hetul was playing with Black and his Elo rating was 1817, almost 600 points below his opponents rating of 2407.

Hetul Shah created history in the first round of the 7th Parsvnath International Open chess tournament defeating Grandmaster Nurlan Ibrayev of Kazakhstan in Delhi on Sunday.

Master Hetul Shah has been selected in Limca Book of Records as a youngest player at the age of nine to defeat a grand master in chess. In addition, he won Silver Medal on behalf of the Indian team.

Awards and Achievements by Hetul Shah
* At 2006 Hetul Shah welcomed the Chief Minister of Gujarat- Shri Narendra Modi at the 44th National `B` Chess Championship.

* In the National Under-9 Chess Championship he came third and booked two berths in India team for World and Asian Under-9 tournaments.

* Hetul was the youngest chess player to defeat a grandmaster.

* Presently he represents Gujarat at the national level.
