Varun Singh Bhati is a para high jumper and one of India"s top athletes in his sports. The nature of his disability is called Poliomyelitis (Deformity in one leg).

Varun Singh Bhati currently trains at the Sports Authority of India in Bengaluru and is being supported by the GoSports Foundation through the Para Champions Programme.

Early Life of Varun Singh Bhati
Varun Singh Bhati is a resident of Greater Noida and son of Mr. Hem Singh Bhati also a student of B.Sc. Maths (Hons). Varun"s inherent talent was spotted by St Josephs School, Greater Noida from where he did his schooling and still his home ground. His talent is further nurtured by Mr. Satyanarayana, a former national athlete. Varun is currently being supported by the GoSports Foundation through the Para Champions Programme.

Varun Singh Bhati is an upcoming high-jumper, and one of India"s top athletes to watch out for in the coming years. Varun managed to find the right balance in sport and education and made great progress in both. He is afflicted by Polio at a young age, Varun Singh Bhati took to sport in his school days, and has been consistently getting better. The claim of Varun Singh Bhati to fame came in 2012 when he registered the `A` qualification mark for the 2012 Paralympics in London with a performance of 1.60m. However wing to limited slots available to India, he failed to make the cut to London 2012. He was also part of the Indian team for the 2014 Asian Para Games in Incheon, (Korea) where he came 5th. The same year he won a gold medal at the 2014 China Open Athletics Championship. In 2015, he came in 5th again at the 2015 Para World Championship in Doha (Qatar). He performed better than other established Indian para high jumpers such as HN Girisha and Sharad Kumar. Enhancing his reputation as India"s leading para high jumpers, Varun recorded a jump of 1.82m at the 2016 IPC Athletics Asia-Oceania Championship where he won a gold as well as set a new Asian Record. This effort was better than the gold-winning jumper at the 2015 World Championship. He is one of India`s top medal prospects at the Paralympic Games.
