Thorangtlang Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Lunglei District, at a distance of nearly 240 kms away from Aizawl and is based towards the eastern portion of the north-eastern state of Mizoram. The sanctuary is spread over an area measuring 50 square kilometres. The area enclosed by the sanctuary is often traversed by wild Elephants which migrate from the area of Bangladesh. The vegetation of this part of the country is mainly Semi Evergreen forest belt, which acts as the perfect route for the passage of herds of elephants.
Leaf Monkey, Sambhar, Leopard, Sloth Bear, Gaur, Hoolock Gibbon, Barking Deer, Porcupine, Wild Boar, Rhesus Macaque, Slow Lorris, Elephant, Giant Squirrel, Jungle Cat, Wild Dog and several other species of animals are existent in the Thorangtlang Wildlife Sanctuary. The ideal moment to approach this beautiful sanctuary is the time period between the months of October and March.
