The Times of India is a broadsheet English daily newspaper of India and is owned by The Times Group. It is the oldest English-language newspaper in India still in circulation. It is the second oldest Indian newspaper still in circulation after the "Bombay Samachar". It is owned and published by Bennett, Coleman and Company which is owned by the Sahu Jain family.
History of Times of India
The Times of India was set up on November 3rd 1838 as "The Bombay Times" and Journal of Commerce. The Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce was started as a bi-weekly edition and was published every Saturday and Wednesday. It consisted of news from Europe, the Americas and the subcontinent. The daily editions of the paper were started from 1850 and in 1861; the name "Bombay Times" was changed to The Times of India. After India`s independence, the ownership rights of the paper passed on to the industrial family of Dalmiyas and later it was taken over by Sahu Shanti Prasad Jain of the Sahu Jain group from Bijnore of Uttar Pradesh.

Times of India along with its other group of companies, known as The Times Group, also publishes "Ahmedabad Mirror", "Bangalore Mirror", "Bangalore Times", "Delhi Times", "The Economic Times". The Times of India has its markets in major cities such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Aurangabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Guwahati, Hubli, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolhapur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Mysore, Nagpur, Nashik, Panaji, Patna, Puducherry, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Surat, Trichy, Trivandrum, Varanasi, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.
