Swimming Federation of India (SFI) is a mother organization that takes care of swimming in India. It mainly deals with administration and promotion of the sport in India, and is affiliated to FINA, the world governing body for the sport. The Swimming Federation of India (SFI) was set up after the coming together of its predecessors - the National Swimming Association (NSA) and the Indian Swimming Federation (ISF). The two adversary associations were at loggerheads over affiliation issues. While the Kolkata-based NSA got affiliation from FINA in 1932-33, the ISF was supported by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). Like many other sporting bodies, the SFI was set up to support and promote the respective sport in India. But due to paucity of scientific training and latest training structures, inadequate infrastructure, indifferent planning and programming has led to the downfall of Indian swimmers. Moreover the federation has also miserably failed to raise the standards of the Indian swimmers, who are desperately looking for a good platform to display their talent and gain international repute. The outdated and haphazard training methods have also added to the lack of great talents in the sport.
