Starrimo Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in India. The monastery is also called as Guru Mandir locally. It is a 10th century monastery and is placed near a tree-covered edge above the old town. It is a branch of the Stakna Monastery in Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir. Other branches connected with this are in Saini and Bardan. The Starrimo Monastery shelters around 30 monks.

The monastery is worth visiting as it exhibits the elegant architecture of the ancient period. The surrounding of the monastery is also a treat to the eyes; it`s calm and peaceful. Another attraction of the monastery is the nearby old village of Pibiting. The village is dominated by its picturesque hilltop monastery which is a superb manifestation of stupa architecture. Trekking in the nearby area is also a good idea to be explored.
Connectivity of Starrimo Monastery
The monastery can be accessed from Kargil on the Kargil-Padum road. This path is open from mid-July to early November. Padum is 5km away from Karsha.
