Gateway Of Taragarh Fort, AjmerBehind the Gateway of Taragarh Hill , Ajmer a small steep path two miles long leads up to the hill towards Taragarh fort, also accessible by road through the Nallah Bazaar. This fort faced many assaults and sieges and was occupied by many rulers. The palaces within were completely dismantled by Lord William Bentick. The ancient walls of Gateway of Taragarh Hill raised by Ajaipal can hardly be seen. The original name of Taragarh was Ajaimeru Durg and it was about 243 m in height (800ft) from its base.

The most renowned fort of Rajaputana, and situated on Beetli Hill and according to Akhbarul-Akhar says that the first fort built on a hill in India was the fortress of Taragarh.
