Skating in India is tremendously gaining popularity in the country. It is also an adventurous sport. There are various skating centres, over the years, established in India as an entertainment zone. It is now considered as the one of the best roller sports in India. All skating centers that have come into existence look towards providing the best skating facility to the people. One of the oldest centers that were established in India was the Yaki Skates by Arvind Gupta. This is a skating centre that trains young and enthusiastic people.
History of Skating
The history of Skating can be found in Scandinavian Literature. And it has been clearly established that in Holland also Skating used to be practised. But the most interesting part of the history belongs to St. Lydwina of Schiedom who in 1396 broke a rib while skating at the age of 16. She died in 1433, and subsequently became the patron saint of the Skaters. The first skating club was formed in England in 1742, and 1772, the first instructional book on skating was written and published by Captain Roberts Jones. The London Skating club was founded in 1842. The first all iron skate which was clipped to the boot was invented in 1850, by Bushnell of Philadelphia. By the end of 19th century a number of skating rinks came up in many cities including Melbourne and Johannesburg. International Skating Union (ISU) was formed in 1892, at Schweringer, Holland. ISU standardized regulations in figure skating, speed skating and dancing on ice.
Yaki Skates

Types of Skating
There are various types of skating that can be practised, namely; free skating, figure skating, pair skating, ice skating etc.
Free Skating
Free skating is the climax of the competition. In this type of skating, intricate footwork is combined with jumps and spins, which are spaced between spirals and linking steps
Pair Skating
Pair skating is divided into compulsory and freestyle sections. In the compulsory section, the pair is required to demonstrate six specified sequences. In the freestyle section, the two partners must perform movements giving a homogeneous impression and must fill the rink during a display.
Ice Dancing
There is a great difference between pair skating and ice dancing, it is a process of ice skating. In ice dancing lifts are not permitted. Dancing consists of a non-repetitive performance (novel movements. Certain free skating movements which are in keeping with the character of the dances are allowed.
