Savala is one of the sons of Priyavrata, who was designated by his father to be the monarch of the Dwipa of Pushkara.

The Vishnu Purana affirms that Savala is one of the ten sons of Priyavrata and Kamya. Savala was declared by his father Priyavrata to be the monarch of the Dwipa of Pushkara.

Savala had two sisters and nine other brothers. The names of his sisters were Samrat and Kushi. The names of his brothers were, Agnidhra, Agnibahu, Vapushmat, Dyutimat, Medha, Medhatithi, Bhavya, Putra and Jyotishmat. Savala along with his brothers were renowned for being wise, valiant, modest and dutiful.
