Sambhavi mudra is a yogic posture practiced to strengthen the eye muscles and free the tension around the related area. This mudra is also called "Eyebrow centre gazing" as in the performance of shambhavi mudra eyes are focussed on the eyebrow centre. The Shambhavi mudra is also ideal to practice meditation.
Steps to perform Sambhavi Mudra
The steps of Sambhavi mudra are simple and can be performed by anyone. But for positive result it is advisable to begin under the supervision of yoga expert.
•Sit down comfortably in good posture with hands placed on knees. Briefly shut the eyes then reopen them and focus gaze on a fixed spot. Then look up high without moving head.
•Focus gaze on the spot in the middle of eyebrows and concentrate on this area. Meditate on it.
•While maintaining this focus, meditate on the sound of Om reverberating around the spot gazing at.
•Make sure not to strain the eyes. They should be relaxed at all times.
•Continue this practice for five minutes.
•Close eyes but keep the gaze on that same spot in the middle of the eyebrows.
•Chant Om slowly while meditating on the sound.
•Try to make each individual Om last longer. The breathing should be deep through the nose.
•Continue for five minutes.

Caution about Sambhavi Mudra
People who have undergone cataract surgery, glaucoma and eye operations should not perform Sambhavi Mudra.
