The Ranji Trophy, 1962-63 saw the participation of a large number of 23 teams from all over India, the same number of teams that participated in the previous edition of the tournament. Being divided into five different zones, the teams competed with each other in the zonal stage and then in the knock out level for the trophy. The participating teams in the tournament included the likes of Andhra, Baroda, Bengal, Bihar, Bombay, Delhi, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Madras, Mysore, Northern Punjab, Orissa, Railways, Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Southern Punjab, Services, Uttar Pradesh and the Vidarbha.

Ranji Trophy - 1962-63 Central Zone League Matches: The Central Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63 saw the participation from a number of 4 teams like the Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha and Rajasthan. There was a tough competition among the teams that played the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63, as all of them tried to become one of the two toppers in the zone. However, the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh teams became successful to eventually get into the knock out level of the tournament from the Central Zone.

Ranji Trophy - 1962-63 East Zone League Matches: The East Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63 saw only 3 teams participating with each other and only 2 matches were played in the zone. The Assam team did not participate in the tournament and only the teams like Bengal, Bihar and Orissa were present there in the championship. The first of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63 was played between the teams of Bengal and Bihar at Calcutta from 12-14 January, 1963. The Bengal team played wonderfully in the match and clinched a victory of an innings and 105 runs to earn the entire 10 points from it. The Bengal team then played against the Orissa team in the second match of the zone and the match was played at Calcutta from 29-31 January, 1963. Bengal won the match by a huge margin of an innings and 173 runs and earned the full 10 points from it, as well. The third match of the East Zone was scheduled to be held between the teams of Bihar and Orissa, however, the match could not be organised due to some unavoidable reasons. The Bengal team went into the knock out level of the tournament from the East Zone.

Ranji Trophy - 1962-63 North Zone League Matches: There were a number of 6 teams played against each other in the North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63, all coming from the Northern region of India. The teams that participated under the zone included the likes of Delhi, Railways, Services, Southern Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Northern Punjab. All the teams tried their best to get an entry into the knock out level of the tournament and Delhi became the toppers of the zone after all the matches were played.

Ranji Trophy - 1962-63 South Zone League Matches: The 6 teams that played under the South Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63 included the teams like Kerala, Madras, Hyderabad, Mysore and Andhra. All the teams were coming from the Southern part of India and they competed with each other for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone. However, the Madras and Hyderabad teams became successful to get into the knock out level of the tournament from the South Zone.

Ranji Trophy - 1962-63 West Zone League Matches: The West Zone saw a tough competition between 5 teams that included the likes of Saurashtra, Maharashtra, Bombay, Baroda and Gujarat. The teams, coming from the western region of India, competed with each other first in the zonal stage and the top two of them got a promotion into the knock out level of the tournament. The Bombay and Baroda were the two teams that became successful to enter into the knock out level of the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63 from the West Zone.

Ranji Trophy - 1962-63 Knock out Matches: The knock out matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63 was held once all the zonal matches were completed and all the top two teams from the zones were finalized. The matches held during the months of February and March in the year of 1963 and the top teams of the stage included the likes of Bengal, Hyderabad, Bombay, Delhi and Rajasthan. They competed with each other in the Quarter-Final, Semi-Finals and the Final of the tournament.
