National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) is an autonomous institute under the Indian Ministry of Defence. It is located in Dirang in West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh. The institute provides specialized training in mountain rescue, mountaineering and adventure sports etc. The institute was founded in October 2011 by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and started functioning with effect from 30th May 2013.

National Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports at Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh operates under the control and superintendence of ministry of defense, Government of India. Mr. Rajnath Singh Defense Minister is the president of the institute and Shri Pema Khandu, chief minister of the state, is the vice president of the institute. Shri Rajiv Singh Thakur, Joint Secretary (Army), Ministry of defense is the secretary of the institute. The institute has seven member governing council with representatives from central and Arunachal Pradesh government.
Campus of National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports
Spread over an area of 52 acres, NIMAS is situated on a hill which is at a height of somewhere between 6000-7000 feet. The institute overlooks the town of Dirang and the Sela Pass. The campus with traditional style houses is being built to provide accommodation to hundreds of students at any given time. Separate hostels for men and women are being constructed. One of the main roles of NIMAS campus is to act as the base camp for all the different programmes that the institute conducts.
