Mohammed Ali Qamar is an Indian boxer from Kolkata, in the Indian state of West Bengal. He was one of the first Indians to win gold medal in the disciple of boxing in the Commonwealth Games at 2002 Commonwealth Games held in Manchester.

Early Life of Mohammed Ali Qamar
He was born to a very poor family at the ghettoes of Kidderpore in Kolkata. Mohammed Ali Qamar was brought into boxing at a very young age by his father at Kidderpore School of Physical Education and was coached by Cheena Bhai. He became the champion at the inter-district champion of West Bengal in 1991. During 1992 to 1996, he won in the category of Light Flyweight at the national sub-junior levels.

Qamar put a brave show in the 1999 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Houston, reaching the quarter finals before losing to Ron Siler of the United States. The Commonwealth Games held at Manchester in 2002, he was successful defeating the home favourite Darren Langley 27-25 in the final, outscoring Langley 10-3 and surviving a standing count in the dramatic final round after trailing by 5 points at the beginning of the fourth and last round.

Following this success, Qamar was unable to win any major competitions as he was plagued by injury, which resulted in him losing in the quarterfinals at the 2002 Asian Games at Pusan.

Qamar`s neighbourhood in Kidderpore, which is hub of women`s boxing in India, who claims Qamar as one of their inspirations.
