The post of party presidentship is adorned by Shibu Soren. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha aims at the liberalisation of Jharkhand. The basic ideology of the party is `Regionalism`. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha fetched 17 seats out of 81 at the Jharkhand state assembly elections that took place in 2005. The party also took active part in the United Progressive Alliance. The independent government of Chief Minister Madhu Koda, established in 2006 also earned the support of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
