Janathipathiya Samrakshana SamithyJanathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy is the Keralian political party. This regional political party is part of the United Democratic Front,. The alliance is led by the Indian National Congress. The Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy was established in 1994 under the leadership of K.R. Gowri Amma. K.R. Gowri Amma was a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) before forming the party. In the Legislative Assembly elections of Kerala held in 2001, the Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy won four seats. Party general secretary K.R. Gowri Amma was elected from the Aroor constituency and became the Minister of Agriculture in the A.K. Anthony state government. Members of the Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy in majority belongs to the Ezhava caste. The Ezhavas are considered the largest ethnic groups in Kerala. The Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy has a branch called the `Janathipathiya Yuva Samithy` (JYS, Democratic Youth Association). The flag of the Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy is a `Red flag with stylised white earth globe with black meridians and parallels charged with a red 5-pointed star on the upper hoist`.
