Jagdeep, the Bollywood actor, starred in numerous films mostly gaining popularity for his comic roles. His most acclaimed performance till date has been the portrayal of Soorma Bhopali in the movie Sholay.

The year 1957 brought a milestone in his career when he performed in Jagdeep, born as Jagdeep Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jaffry, is a noted Indian film actor who has enacted in more than 300 Bollywood flicks. He has gained prominence in the Hindi film industry as a comedian. His portrayal of the character Soorma Bhopali in the 1975 Hindi flick Sholay rendered him huge fame in the industry. Apart from working as an actor, he has also ventured into film direction. Jagdeep was born on 29th March 1939 in Datia, Madhya Pradesh.

Career of Jagdeep
Jagdeep began his cinematic career in the Hindi film industry as a child artist with B. R. Chopra`s flick Afsana. Subsequently he played a child artist in many other movies such as K. A. Abbas`s Munna and Ab a children"s film titled Hum Panchi Ek Dal Ke. For the movie he, along with other artists of the movie, was awarded by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India. He started essaying comic roles with Bimal Roy`s Do Bigha Zamin and continued with the same making the genre his forte. After Do Bigha Zamin he starred in Guru Dutt`s maiden production Aar Paar. In the movies Ek Masoom and Mandir-Masjid he played antagonistic roles.

Jagdeep, Bollywood ActorJagdeep also played lead roles in a few flicks such as Bhabhi and Barkha. A number of hit songs have also been picturized on him including `In Pyar Ki Rahon Mein` and `Paas Baitho Tabiyat Bahal Jayegi` from Punarmilan and `Chal Ud Ja Re Panchhi` from the superhit movie Bhabhi in which he got paired opposite Nanda. Jagdeep has also appeared in several horror movies, particularly in the projects of Ramsay Brothers. He also starred in hit movies like Purana Mandir in which he essayed the role of Gabbar, Tehkhana, Veerana and Andaz Apna Apna where he appeared as Salman Khan`s father which marked the pinnacle of his film career. His role in the film Sholay has been the most acclaimed where he played the character of Soorma Bhopali. Jagdeep has also directed a movie titled Soorma Bhopali in which he himself appeared in the lead role. Journey Bombay to Goa was the last film of Jagdeep.

Personal Life of Jagdeep
Jagdeep has five children. His sons Naved Jaffery and Javed Jaffrey are also associated with the entertainment industry. Apart from them, Jagdeep has three more children from his first wife, Naseem Begam namely Suraiya, Shakira Shafi and Hussein. Naved and Javed had hosted the popular television show Boogie Woogie.
