Hook, Kickboxing TechniqueHook is referred to a punch in kickboxing. This term is also used as a technique of boxing. This is a type of punch which is thrown at the opponent by turning the main muscle and back, thereby throwing the arm, which is bent at an angle or at 90 degrees into the opponent in a horizontal arc. This shot, the hook, is mainly thrown at the chin, but it is also as shots at the body, especially to liver.

The punches in a hook can either be thrown with the main hand or with the back hand. But the term that is used without a qualifier generally refers to lead hook. While throwing a hook, the person shifts his weight of the body to the back, or rear supporting foot, thus allowing him to fix his leading leg and torso, swinging his main fist towards the opponent in a horizontal direction. In some cases, depending on the comfort and style of the boxer, the leading foot is not pivoted. The process of pivoting the foot is necessary as it enhances the power of the punch, but it leaves no option for the boxer to follow up with, like the right hook or the right uppercut. The hook happens to be a powerful punch with the knockout power. There are various types of hooks like the upper hook and the shovel hook. These hooks are mainly body punches that also possess the features of both the uppercut and hook. Check hook is another variation of hook that combines a simple and ordinary hook with footwork that removes a boxer from path of lunging opponent.
