Divya Singh is a former Indian basketball player who has captained the Indian women"s national basketball team. She has been regarded as one of the finest women basketball players of the country. Her leadership qualities and game skills have been extraordinary. Her academic strength and personality also deserve a special mention. She has led the Indian women"s basketball team at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
Early Life of Divya Singh
Divya Singh was born on 21st July 1982 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. She has four sisters namely Pratima Singh, Akanksha Singh, Prashanti Singh and Priyanka Singh and all of them are associated with the same profession. Prashanti Singh and Akanksha Singh are the members of India Women"s National Basketball Team and Pratima Singh serves as the captain. Divya Singh did her schooling from Rajershi Shishu Vihar in Uday Pratap College and R. M. K. B. I. College at Varanasi. She earned her Bachelor"s degree in physical education from Banaras Hindu University and completed her higher education from the University of Delaware in Newark in US in sports management.
Career of Divya Singh
Divya Singh has been the winner of several gold, silver and bronze medals in sporting events at the national as well as international level. She has worked as an assistant women"s basketball coach for University of Delaware. She has also served as a coach for the U16 Indian men"s basketball team. Divya Singh has also worked as a successful coach in many colleges of Delhi including Jesus and Mary College and St. Stephen"s College. She has also coached the Delhi women"s basketball team. In the year 2006 she got the Outstanding Player Honour from Uday Pratap Autonomous College. In the 21st Karp Impex Federation Cup Basketball Championship she was honoured as the best player.
