Begamganj is a city as well as a municipality situated in the Raisen district in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India. The district headquarters are located in the town of Raisen. The district is included under the Bhopal Division.
It is positioned between the latitude 22° 47` and 23° 33` north and the longitude 77° 21` and 78° 49` east and is bordered in the west by the Sehore District, in the north by the Vidisha District, in the east and south-east by the Sagar District, in the south east by the Narsimhapur District, and in the south by the Hoshangabad and the Sehore districts. The Raisen District has derived its name from a huge fort. This fort is constructed on a sandstone hill, at the bottom of which lies the town.
The exact location of the city of Begamganj is at 23.6° N 78.33° E. It has a mean elevation of 498 metres (1633 feet). As per the 2001 India census, Begamganj has a population of 30,563. Males form 53% of the population and females make up 47%. Begamganj has a mean literacy rate of 65%, higher than the countrywide standard of 59.5%. 58% of the males and 42% of the females are literate. 17% of the population constitutes children less than 6 years of age.
