Arambha Avastha also called the "commencement stage" is the initial stage in Pranayama that needs to be practiced by the student in the beginning. This pranayama is practised in order to destroy all obstacles and sins.

Practice of Arambha Avastha
It is done in the following manner: Firstly, Pranava is chanted with three Matras or prolonged intonations. This destroys the sins. It is believed that by practising this, one attains the `Arambha Avastha`. The body begins to sweat. While sweating he should rub it with the hands properly. Body begins to tremble also. Sometimes he starts to jump like a frog.
