The Sahasrara chakra or the Crown Chakra is also called the thousand-petaled lotus. The signposts for activating the crown chakra are as follows:
Symbol: The symbol of the chakra is a lotus which has the thousand-petals. Within the lotus a cup is seen emptying out liquid that falls in infinitely fine streams. Each of these streams has a different color.
Colour: The colour of the chakra is the color of light itself. Although light has no colours yet in other ways it contains all colors. Light can be either be brilliant or dim. It is this indefinable light color that must be attempted to understand to comprehend the color of the chakra.
Element: The element is the spirit derived from life force. It is the divine force.
Sound: The sound of the chakra is almost unheard. It best resembles the sound that the hot air makes when it rises on a very still day. It is the sound that can be heard only with the inner ear. The mantra here is the sacred OM but the OM is made at so high a pitch that the only thing that can be imagined is the movement of the mouth and tongue and the vibration of the head as the silent M is sounded.
Animal: The animal of the chakra is the sacred thousand-petalled lotus. Its petals bear every possible color, shade. The colors and shades are so lively that they take the observer beyond every mundane color into new levels of awareness of color. The chakra has many colors and sounds but it does not have any taste, feeling, or smell. It happens so because these characteristics are traditionally considered to be too much connected with the mundane world to be appropriate.
