The Padma Bhushan Award is presented by the Government of India since the year 1954 to recognise extraordinary talents in various fields. The award is considered as the third highest civilian awards given in India and is given to those, who have achieved great feats in their respective fields. The award is given to the people from the field like Science & Engineering, Literature & Education, Medicine, Sports, Civil Service, Arts, Trade & Industry, Social Work, Public Affairs, etc. The year 1973 saw a total of 17 people winning the award.
