Yusuf Pathan, Indian Cricket PlayerYusuf Pathan is an Indian cricketer born on 17th November 1982. He is a right handed batter who is very popular for his hard hitting ability and aggressive game. He made his debut in the domestic circuit in the 2001-02 seasons. Apart from batting right handed is also quite handy with the ball, when he bowls those tantalizing off-breaks. He has a younger brother named Irfan Pathan who is also a member of the Indian Cricket Team. Though Irfan is younger to Yusuf, but the former made his debut at the international level much earlier than Irfan.

Cricketing Career of Yusuf Pathan
After his tremendous show at the2007 season of the Deodhar Trophy and then at the Inter-state domestic Twenty20 competition held in April 2007, Yousuf was selected as part of the Indian team for the inaugural Twenty20 World Championship, held in South Africa in September 2007. He made his debut at the T20 World Cup at the final match against Pakistan, where he opened the batting and made 15 runs in the process.

After an impressive domestic season 2007-08 he was signed up by the Rajasthan Royals, the franchisee from Rajasthan, for the Indian Premier League. He played some impressive knocks at the IPL and as a result got selected to the national side. Yusuf made his first appearance for India at the ODI against Pakistan on 10th June 2008 at Dhaka. He smashed a fifty off just 29 balls in the second ODI against England in Indore, on his 26th birthday. Thereafter he became a regular member of the Indian cricket team.

He went to England with the team to participate in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 Championship. He didn`t make a lasting impression in the series and India too failed to quality to the semis. In the later part of the year he was dropped from the team due to lack of performance, and Ravindra Jadeja was given a chance.

In the final match of Duleep Trophy 2010, Yusuf scored a brilliant hundred in the first innings and a double hundred in the second innings and guided his team, West Zone, to a glorious victory.

On 13 March 2010, Pathan scored a century off 37 balls, in an Indian Premier League match against Mumbai Indians. The innings also included record 11 consecutive hits to the boundary (6-6-6-6-4-4-6-4- 4-4-4). This was the fasted hundred scored by a batsman in IPL.

Over the years, ever since his debut he has played some fantastic knocks for India. His memorable innings of 123 runs of 96 balls against New Zealand, to overhaul the opponents 315 runs with 7 balls to spare, at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was one of the brilliant knocks by him.

In the 2011 IPL auction, he was bought for whopping $2.1 million by Kolkata Knight Riders.

Thanks to his series of good performances, he made it to the Indian team for 2011 World Cup. But Yusuf did not have a good World Cup. He ended up having the winner`s medal and the honour of holding the World Cup aloft.
