Yadgir district is one of the thirty districts of Karnataka. This district was carved out from the former Gulbarga district.

Yadgir District, KarnatakaYadgir district in Karnataka was formed on 10 April 2010. The district consists of Shahpur, Surpur and Yadgir. Yadgir is the administrative headquarters of the district. As per the 2011 census the district has a population of 1,172,985. It has a population density of 224 inhabitants per square kilometre. It has a literacy rate of 52.36 %.

The major institutions are: Chiranjeevi Methodist High School, Mahatma Gandhi High School & PU Science College, Dhoka Jain High School, Sri Chennareddy Patil PU College, Chiranjeevi Methodist Composite PU College and Nivedita Education Society, Nivedita polytechnic.

Bhima River flows through the Yadgir town. It has three Taluks: Shahpur, Surpur aand Yadgir. This district has four municipalities.
