West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences was established independently on 2nd January 1995 by a Legislative Act. Its faculty comprises of Veterinary & Animal Science, Dairy Technology and Fisheries.

West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (Calcutta)West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences was established on January 2, 1995 by a Legislative Act (West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Science Act-VI, 1995). Its faculty includes Veterinary & Animal Science, Dairy Technology and Fisheries. During the centenary celebrations of the Bengal Veterinary College in 1993, a decision was taken to establish an independent Veterinary and Animal Sciences University to fulfil the growing needs of education and research in this field. Accordingly a committee was constituted by the Government of West Bengal and as per the proposals of the committee, the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences was established in 1995. Late Jyoti Basu, the then Honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal inaugurated it on 31st May 1995. It is a college recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The objective of the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, Kolkata is to disseminate knowledge in various branches of Veterinary and Animal Sciences along with Dairy Technology and Fishery Sciences. It also aims to improve animal and fish production.

Research Stations of West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences:
The university has three research stations adjacent to the KVKs located at Ramsai in the District of Jalpaiguri, Ashoknagar in North 24 Parganas District and Digha in Murshidabad District.

Library of West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences:
West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences has a library of its own which is equipped with various modern facilities and resources in the form of books, print journals, online journals, CD-ROMs, standards, thesis, reports etc. It houses over seventeen thousand books which cater to the needs of the students in the domain of engineering & technology, sciences & business management. The Library has a book bank for students of the University.
