West Bengal State University is a newly established university that is situated in Barasat, West Bengal.

West Bengal State UniversityWest Bengal State University has fifty nine colleges affiliated to it. Through an act of the Legislative assembly the government of West Bengal passed West Bengal Act XXVIII of 2007 implementing a long-standing public demand in creating the university named West Bengal State University. This became functional from academic session 2008-09. Thirty postgraduate courses have been offered.

The post graduate courses are:

* MSC Chemistry
* Sociology
* Computer Science
* MA English
* Physiology
* M.Sc Maths
* Geography
* Bengali
* Philosophy

Under graduate courses offered by the university includes B.A, B.Sc and Journalism and Mass communication.
