Waterfalls in Karnataka are an important tourist attraction. The presence of lofty peaks and abundant rainfall has led to the formation of several waterfalls in the state. The sites of waterfalls present views that are indescribable.

Water splurging from the mountaintops with a green lush backdrop is a beauty to behold. Most of the waterfalls are part of national parks or tourist spots. While some are favourable picnic spots, others are popular for their height worldwide. Some of the waterfalls in Karnataka are also associated with legends and are popular pilgrim center. The thundering sound of these falls instills life in the otherwise silent areas.

Abbey Falls
This falls is a popular picnic spot and is located in the Coorg or Kodagu district. The must see attraction here is the coffee estate. The best time to visit this waterfall is during monsoon. Abbey Falls is at its best then. At a later stage the falls merge into Kaveri River This is also known as Abbi Falls.

Hebbe Falls
Plummeting down from a height of 250 feet Hebbe Falls comes down in two stages-Dodda Hebbe and Chikka Hebbe. This waterfall is located near Kemmagundi. Trekkers who frequent the adjacent are for trekking also drop in to witness this fall. This place was once the summer retreat of royal families. Hence, the place had been beautified. The picturesque beauty of Hebbe Falls plays a major role in attracting travellers.

Iruppu Falls
Located beside the Rajiv Gandhi National Park (Nagarhole), Iruppu Falls receives visitors frequently. Originating from the Brahmagiri Hills, the falls comes down from a feet of 170 feet. As it touches the ground, it is called Lakshmana Teertha River or the Sacred River of Lakshmana. The adjacent area is covered by a dense forest. This site is also a popular picnic spot. An ancient temple is located nearby where devotees come on Shivratri.

Jog Falls
This fall can be divided into four stages--Raja, Rani, Rover, and Rocket. The waterfall cascades from a height of 810 feet and presents a charming surrounding. The scenic beauty of the pace is awe-inspiring. The origin of this fall is Sharavati River. This is also considered the highest waterfall in Asia. As a result numerous tourists visit the site each year to witness this marvel of nature. Linganamakki Dam, situated close by, is also a popular tourist attraction.

Kalhatti Falls
Steeped in legends this waterfall in Karnataka is also called the Kalahasti Falls. This waterfall too is located near Kemmangundi. The site is accessible from Bangalore by road. What draws people to this place is its scenic beauty. Cascading from a hilltop it presents a pretty picture to for eyes of the onlookers.

Lalguli Falls
The water cascades down from a height of 250 feet and the otherwise silent area throbs with its thunderous noise. The falls is located 15 kilometres north of Yellapur district. There are other rapids located at various heights, which add to the force of this fall.

Magod Falls
The adjacent area of this fall belongs to dense forests. Cascading from a height of 650 feet this site is a must see for the travellers.

Sathodi Falls
More popularly known as "mini-Niagara of Uttara Kannada District" this waterfall is located near Yellapur. The best season to visit this falls is in winter.

Shivasamudram Falls At this point River Cauvery gets divided into two distributaries. Falling from a height of 300 to 350 feet this is a major tourist attraction too.

Unchali Falls The striking feature of the falls is its thunderous sound. The neighbouring areas also receive visitors.
