Early Life of Wasim Jaffer
Wasim Jaffer was born on February 16, 1978 in Mumbai. When he was 15 year old he entered the first class Cricket. He scored a massive 400 runs in school level cricket. It gave him the chance to enter into domestic cricket. He used to play for Mumbai and scored a triple century in second first class game. He was the first batsman to make this for Mumbai away from home and by putting on 459 runs with his opening partner Sulakshan Kulkarni the pair became the first from Mumbai to pass 400.
International Career of Wasim Jaffer
Jaffer made his debut in Test cricket in a home series against South Africa in 2000. However, he could not cope with the dangerous bowling attack of Shaun Pollock and Allan Donald and managed to get only 46 runs in four innings. He was thus dismissed after that. Again after returning back to domestic cricket he continued to score big runs. This fetched him another chance to get entry into national team in 2002 for West Indies tour. Jaffer made remarkable 51 and 86 runs. In the following tour of England, despite having a century, he had to struggle much and was again dropped. Wasim Jaffer came back in the Test team for the tour of Pakistan 2005-06 for excellent domestic form, but did not play in the Test matches. In the next series he was recalled. Jaffer scored his only Test century against England at Nagpur. He scored exactly 100. In the next series against West Indies he made 212 runs at Antigua Recreation Ground which enabled him to be the equal second highest scorer by an Indian batsman in the Caribbean.
On the 2006 series Wasim Jaffer made his ODI debut also against South Africa but failed to make run and was thus expelled out of the ODI squad. He continued to score in Test edition and secured hundred in the third test against South Africa at Cape Town. After that he also made test 100 in the illustrious Bangladesh tour. Jaffer scored 202 in the first innings of the second test of the 2007 series against Pakistan at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
