Walter D’Souza was an Indian field hockey player who was born in M’bale in East Africa. He returned to India and proved himself as an important player of the nation.

Walter D`Souza was an Indian Hockey player. In the honour of Walter D`souza, a trophy was given in a Thumps-Up sponsored Inter-schools Hockey match (under-12). Five members of the Lusitanian`s, those who (then or before) were in the Olympic squad, were Leo Pinto, Maxie Vaz, Lawrie Fernandes and Reginald Rodrigues and the Lusis, along with Walter D`souza. In those days they were popularly known among the people. They together form the nursery of Mumbai as well as Indian hockey.

In India Walter D`souza is a name in the arena of Indian Hockey His artistry, dribbling skills, body swerves, accurate short passing, and eventually his ability to score goals from half chances are the most important qualities. Moreover his devotion to the game and a national spirit is worthy to be noted. At the Olympics held in the year 1948 in London the Indian National Hockey Team won the Gold medal. Walter was the part of that team.
