The college was established in 1986 by the Vokkaligara Sangha, which came into being in 1906 and the Sangha is still running and managing the college. The Sangha is working on developing the entire educational scenario of the state through opening new educational institutions.

The Vokkaligara Sangha Dental College & Hospital (VSDCH), Bangaluru was established with a view to achieve certain aims and objectives. The main objectives of the college include imparting quality education in the field of Dental Surgery and allied subjects. The college is aimed at imparting quality training for academic and clinical skills and also in bringing out professionals with high ethical values. Providing quality research and scientific data Facilities to enhance the knowledge of the professionals and also to produce individuals with high morality, integrity and emotional intelligence who are capable of working as a team, is included among the main objectives of the VSDC, Bangaluru.

Though the Vokkaligara Sangha Dental College & Hospital (VSDCH), Bangaluru was initially affiliated to the Bangalore University, it is presently affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangaluru. The Dental Council of India (DCI) recognised the college in the year 1992 and the college got the permission of DCI to start Post Graduate Studies in the year 2001. The college offers postgraduate courses in all the specialities of Dentistry. The college offers several courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in various disciplines of dental science. The main two courses offered by the college are BDS and MDS.

The Vokkaligara Sangha Dental College & Hospital (VSDCH), Bangaluru admits a total of 60 students in its BDS course every year. The BDS course is actually an undergraduate course having duration of 4 years and the students are required to under go one year of compulsory rotating internship training to obtain the degree from the University after passing Final BDS examination. For getting admitted in the BDS course in VSDC, Bangaluru, the students are required to have passed the two years PUC examination conducted by the PU Education Board, Karnataka State, or any other examination recognized as equivalent to it by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangaluru. They should pass the examination with English & Physics, Chemistry & Biology as optional subjects. The candidates are also required to have passed the B.Sc. Examination of Bangalore University or any other statutory University. However, they are provided to pass B.Sc examination with not less than three of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology.

The candidates desirous to get admitted in BDS course in the Vokkaligara Sangha Dental College & Hospital (VSDCH), Bangaluru are required to obtain at least 50% of the total marks in English and Science subjects taken altogether at the qualifying examination. They are also required to be aged at least seventeen years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission. The college selects all the students from the state and country seeking admission into the course, based on the Common entrance test (CET) conducted once a year by the Karnataka Government.

In order to get admitted in MDS course in the Vokkaligara Sangha Dental College & Hospital (VSDCH), Bangaluru, the students are required to have a degree of BDS from an Indian university recognized by the Dental council of India (DCI). The duration of the MDS course in VSDC, Bangaluru is three years consisting of six terms and a candidate should also complete one year`s houseman ship as on 30th May of the year, to be eligible for MDS course. The college is offering the MDS course in the specialities like Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Oral Medicine, Community Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Periodontics and Pedodontics.

Apart from offering the above mentioned BDS and MDS courses, the Vokkaligara Sangha Dental College & Hospital (VSDCH), Bangaluru also provides dental treatment to the people of Karnataka, with the help of its associated hospital. The hospital has a large number of clinics, laboratories and departments that are well equipped with state of the art equipments.
