Visveswarapura Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences is located at the 22nd Main, 24th Cross, opposite to BDA Complex, BSK 2nd Stage, in Bengaluru (Bangalore), in the Karnataka state of India. Visveswarapura Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences or VIPS was founded in 1980, under the supervision of Vokkaligara Sangha, a well-known trust devoted to impart quality education. This Pharmaceutical institution is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education or AICTE, Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India, and PCI or Pharmacy Council of India. The institution is affiliated to the RGUHS or Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka.

Visveswarapura Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bangaluru, Karnataka The VIPS in Bengaluru city of Karnataka state aims at providing quality education in the field of Pharmacy to all the segments of society in the state. The Visveswarapura Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences is located in Bengaluru, which is also the capital of Karnataka, one of the states of India. Previously a township of Educational Institutions, today Bengaluru is known as the Silicon Valley of India, the centre of an Eco-friendly, Pharma and Bio-Agro Industries. The college possesses well-designed building with broad lecture halls, well-maintained laboratories constructed to meet PCI and AICTE regulations.

The Visveswarapura Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Bengaluru offers Diploma in Pharmacy and Bachelors of Pharmacy. Admission into the Diploma in Pharmacy or D.Pharm course is made by the management directly depending on the availability of seats and the merit of the students applied. In order to be eligible for this course one needs to have passed the 2 year PUC, with Chemistry, Physics and Biology and Mathematics as subjects, of the state of Karnataka. Students passing the examination under any other approved board equivalent to the above mentioned criteria are also eligible to apply for this course. This course covers time duration of two years and there is also a practical training which the students need to undertake, which will cover 750 hours or more spanning across three months.

After the successful completion of the D.Pharm course from this institute one can go for a career in the field of Pharmacy or can pursue another higher course in this institution which is known as Bachelor of Pharmacy. This course covers a period of four academic years. The admission criteria to the Bachelor of Pharmacy or B.Pharm course is depended on the selection by DME or Directorate of Medical Education, Government of Karnataka for both payment seats and merit by the management. In order to be eligible for this course, one needs to have completed the two year PUC, in Science stream with fifty percent marks in aggregate and having Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology as subjects, of state of Karnataka. Students having equivalent qualification of any other approved University or Board, possessing 50% aggregate marks in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology or Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or Physics, Biology and Chemistry, are eligible for this course. Those who have successfully completed the D.Pharm course with fifty percent marks are also eligible to get admission directly into the second year B.Pharm course. For students belonging to SC/ST/BT, the minimum required percentage of marks for admission into this course will be 40%.

Visveswarapura Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bangaluru, Karnataka The institution also offers M.Pharm or Master of Pharmacy course. It includes the submission of a thesis on the research project which was assigned to a student and it covers a period of two years or twenty four months from the date of the beginning of the academic course. In order to be eligible for this course, a student needs to have completed the B.Pharm course under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, or B.Pharm examination under other Indian Universities founded by law in India or other degree courses in Pharmacy which is recognized as similar or equivalent by RGUHS or Pharmacy Council of India or All India Council of Technical Education or AICTE for this purpose. The candidate should have 55% or more marks in the B.Pharm or equivalent examination. However, for the candidates belonging to the SC/ST, the minimum percentage of marks will be 50. Further, for the teachers of Pharmacy who possess a teaching experience of a minimum period of five years in an institution which is approved by the approved by AICTE and PCI are eligible for this course, provided they should not have secured less than 50% marks in their B.Pharm examination of four year duration.

Doctor of Pharmacy or Pharm D can be undertaken in the Visveswarapura Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Bengaluru but this Degree is issued by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences or R.G.U.H.S. Bengaluru after passing examinations. The duration of the course is six years for those who are opting for it after completing the PSU or D.Pharm and the same course covers a period of three years for those who go for it only after successfully completing their B.Pharm.

The institution provides several facilities to its students. The Library of VIPS caters to a large number and variety of pharmacy and allied subjects which are related to health. This library contains more than four thousand books. There are various journals, both international and national, subscribed by the college. It also possesses books which are related to several paraclinical and clinical subjects ranging over 4000, including journals both international and national. The library also bears an Online Catalog System, like the IDIS, DELNET and Micromedex, which help in accessing information easily and conveniently. Every student of this institution is eligible to borrow two to three books in a week.

The auditorium at VIPS is known as `Kuvempu Kalakshetra`. This auditorium has a capacity to house one thousand audiences where several conferences and cultural activities of the institution are organized. Transport facilities are available very near to the college. The college is having its own bus service which takes its students to the KIMS Hospital in case of any academic related activities. The institution boasts up with hostel facility for both boys and girl students coming for far-off places, mainly outside Bengaluru. Various comfortable accessories in the hostel for its students include Sports Room, TV room, etc. The rooms of accommodation of the students are mainly double bed rooms, well-furnished and spacious. Mess facility is also available at this hostel catering to the taste of various kinds.
