One can also find early Chola temple here which states that Viralimalai was once a prosperous village as early as the 9th century AD. The popular kuravanji dance-drama was also performed in Viralimalai. This traditional form of art named after Viralimalai has been present here for nearly two centuries. Till the year 1993, kuravanji dance-drama has been presented throughout night to visitors, officials, nobles and others on the Maha Shivaratri night. It is organised in front of the mandapam below the foot of the hill.
