Viralimalai, Tamil NaduViralimalai located in Tamil Nadu is under development. It is located 30 km from Tiruchirapalli at an altitude of 137m. The closest tourist destination is Trichy. Other close destinations include Tiruchirapalli, Dindigul and Karur. The place is known for Lord Shanmuganathar temple that is located on the top of the granite hill at Viralimalai. The inhabitants of Viralimalai can trace their descent from the Isai Velalar Melakarar community.

History of Viralimalai
Viralimalai has many natural caverns in the hillock which prove that earlier there was human habitation here. It is well associated with the fortunes of Kodumbalur located six km away. One can also find early Chola temple here which states that Viralimalai was once a prosperous village as early as the 9th century AD. The popular kuravanji dance-drama was also performed in Viralimalai. This traditional form of art named after Viralimalai has been present here for nearly two centuries. Till the year 1993, kuravanji dance-drama has been presented throughout night to visitors, officials, nobles and others on the Maha Shivaratri night. It is organised in front of the mandapam below the foot of the hill.
