Verinag is one of the most picturesque sites of Jammu and Kashmir. Built at a height of 1876m this is a tank of freshwater which is situated on the stream of River Jhelum. Verinag is the second largest source of fresh water that distributes fresh water of river Jhelum to the gardens and surrounding areas of Kashmir valley. Along with Kookarnag this is another water body that attracts the tourists who visit the place.
Verinag spring which was originally built in a circular formation is considered to be the main source of water supply for Kashmir valley. This is sometimes named as the lifeline of Kashmir valley. Named after the Nil Nag, son of famous Rishi Kashyap who was responsible for the creation of Kashmir valley this sight is considered to be one of the biggest attractions for the tourist of Jammu and Kashmir. This picturesque spring was renovated during the rule of Mughal Emperor Jahangir who changed the original circular shape into an octagonal shape. Surrounded with tall pine trees, Verinag has a source of calm and sparkling clear water that adds to the beauty of the place.
Verinag is one of the well connected tourist spots of Jammu and Kashmir. Located between Jammu and Kashmir this place can be commuted through nearest railway station and airport. This is located at the outskirts of Durg Verinag which is a small district outside the spring.
