Venna Lake is one of the main tourist attractions of Mahabaleshwar which is located in the Western Ghats Mountain Range in India. The lake is surrounded by trees on all sides. It is an artificial lake and is not a natural one. The lake is spread over an area of 28 acres with a periphery of 7 to 8 kilometres.
History of Venna Lake
Venna Lake was constructed by Shri Appasaheb Maharaj, who was the ruler of Satara and a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji in the year 1842. Appasaheb was the leader in the 19th century, and the ancient tower which is present in the centre is a mark of the history adjoining the place. It was originally built with the aim of catering to the water needs of the city of Mahabaleshwar.
Things to do in Venna Lake
The tourists can enjoy a boat ride over the lake or a horse ride next to the lake. A number of small eateries line the banks of the lake. The lake has one or two place of pilgrimage submerged to almost 1 to 2 kilometres. Chhatrapati Pratapsihn Garden is present on the banks of the lake.

Venna Lake is accessible by both railways and roadways. Mahabaleshwar city market and the S.T. bus stand are about 2 kilometres from Venna Lake and makes for a nice walk during the evening.
