The Vengeeswarar Temple located in Vadapalani in Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a Hindu temple situated in the vicinity of Vadapalani. The temple is almost 800 years old and is regarded as one of the oldest temples of Chennai. Lord Shiva, the presiding deity of the temple is revered as Lord Vengeeswarar and the goddess is known as Santhanayaki Ambal. Apart from this the temple also houses the idols of Lord Ganesha, Lord Subramanya, Kashi Vishwanath and Vishalakshi, Bairavar and Goddess Gajalakshmi. A separate shrine has been erected for Lord Saneeswarar. The entrance gate of the temple has been adorned with a big rajagopuram decorated with several artistic stucco images.
Festivals of Vengeeswarar Temple
Vengeeswarar Temple celebrates the Pradhosha pooja on a grand scale. The festival is celebrated in honour of Lord Shiva. Pradhosham comes once in fifteen moon days. The evening of the trayodasi i.e. thirteenth moon day between 4.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. is known as Pradhosham. Devotees visit the temple during this auspicious time to offer worship at the feet of the Lord and receive his blessings.
