Vasco S.C., Indian Football ClubVasco Sports Club is a Goan football club which participates in the 2nd Division of I-League which is second most important football league in India.

History of Vasco S.C
Inhabitants from port town of Vasco da Gama, Goa, in 1951, including the Portuguese fort situated there formed the football club called Clube de Desportos Vasco da Gama.

The name of the club was inspired from a renowned Brazilian club Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama, and similar colours were adopted as well. Previously the team practised in the Tilak Maidan Stadium which was later reconstructed in a better manner and is still used today by the club.

In the 50 years this club took part in many major tournaments in India. In the 60`s and 70`s this club won some of the prestigious tournaments during that time like the Kerala Trophy, Stafford Cup, Bandodkar Gold Trophy, Chakola Gold Trophy and Sait-Nagjee Trophy. It failed to make its mark on other tournaments like the Rovers Cup, Bordoloi Shield, Nehru Memorial Tournament, having lost out in the final.

On six different occasions the club pocketed the Goa Professional League title; starting in 1954 until 1969 and is the oldest registered Club still participating in the State`s top League competition, never once having been relegated in the Club`s history.

After twenty years of successful run, the 80`s saw a fall in the efficiency of Vasco Sports Club in terms of All India and State Tournaments. In spite of all the worries, it was successful in retaining an important position among the top five Clubs in Goa. The downslide actually initiated when the Bandekar group withdrew support and there were no new white knights to fund the increasing cost of top class players.

Over a period of 50 years the club has certainly received much financial assistance from various philanthropic benefactors. Unworried from the mid 90`s under the strong leadership of Noel da Lima Leitao took the help of Zeca Miglietti from Portugal, former Benfica defender, as coach for its training programme. His hard work ultimately paid off as the club many prestigious trophies.
