Vantawng Falls is one of the most attractive sites of North east. It is nestled in the Mizoram state of India. It is one of the highest waterfalls in Mizoram and the 13th highest waterfalls in India. The waterfall shares some of the spectacular scenic beauty which gets enriched with the steep cliff that is formed by the tumbling of water. The waterfall attracts the tourists with its mesmerized scenic beauty which always refreshes the visitors whenever they visit the place. The waterfall is called Vantawng Khawhthla in Mizo language.
Location of Vantawng Falls
The waterfall is located 5 kilometres south of Thenzawl in Serchhip district in the Mizoram state of India. It is situated about 30 kilometres from Serchhip and 137 kilometres from Aizawl.
Etymology of Vantawng Falls
The waterfall is said to have been named after Vantawnga who was an excellent swimmer. According to local beliefs, he was such a good swimmer that he could hover in the cascading water like a fish. However, during one of such performances, a drifting log fell from above and killed him.
Attractions of Vantawng Falls

Surrounded with lush green bamboo grooves, this is mainly known for its seven storied cliff which is created by the flow of the water. This two-tiered waterfall with a total height of 229 metres falls from a height of 751 ft. The water drops into a small lake which is cool and provides a pleasant atmosphere for its visitors.
The waterfall is surrounded by difficult stony terrain so it is difficult to approach it. However, its beauty can be enjoyed from the viewing tower which has been constructed by the Tourism Department. As such blessed with greenery in all the seasons of the year, this is one of the most attractive sites in rain fed area of North eastern hills.
Connectivity to Vantawng Falls
The waterfall is well connected via airway, railway and roadway. The nearest major airport is in Shillong. The closest railhead is in Silchar, which is 335 kilometers away from Vantawang. National Highway number 54 connects Aizwal with the rest of the country through Silchar. Tourists can avail buses and taxis from Aizwal to reach the waterfall.
