Usri Falls, JharkhandUsri Falls is one of the major tourist"s attraction sites in Jharkhand. This waterfall is located in Giridih district in Jharkhand. The scenic beauty of the Usri Falls acts as picnic spots for the nature lovers. Usri Falls originated from the water of the Usri River, and is named after it. Usri River is a tributary of River Barakar. The Barakar River is the main tributary of the Damodar River in eastern India. While flowing down a gorge, it drops 39 feet in three various rivulets. The aesthetic appeal of the river dropping in different streams is enhanced by the tropical dense forests that surround it. The area is surrounded by deciduous forest that is home to several wild animals.

The Government of Jharkhand has taken several prominent steps to develop the area and attract the domestic and foreign tourists along with the other tourist attraction sites like Khandoli Dam and Parasnath Hills.

Geography of Usri Falls
The rocks in the region are laminated and metamorphic in nature, quite similar to granite, and are gneissic and the region is well exposed. Some of the rocks near the Usri falls have been eroded into different blocks of huge dimension whose polished and clean surfaces have been chequered by veins of various hues. The Usri River bed changes its profile after making the waterfalls. The lower portion of Usri Falls is mostly flat and slightly undulating. This gives the way to have the gorge like form. The water after falling from the gorges calms down and flows to form a deep and undulating river.

Best Time to Visit Usri Falls
The climate here is generally dry and humid. Summer starts from April the maximum temperature rises in May up to 47 degree Celsius. The climate is pleasant and cool during winter which starts from October to March. The waterfalls can be visited throughout the year. But October-December is frequently cited as the ideal time for tourist visits when the climate is slightly cold and pleasant.

Khandoli River is one of the water reservoir 10 km from Giridih. Tourists can enjoy adventurous water-sports at the Khandoli River.

Tourists who visit Giridih not only enjoy Usri waterfalls but have several places to visit. Parasnath Hill, 4431 ft in height, is the one of the highest mountain ranges of Jharkhand. Parasnath temple charts top among the most sanctified pilgrimage centre for Jain followers. Also, the 2000 year old Jain temple in nearby village Madhuban attracts considerable number of pilgrims and tourists very year.

The Khandoli Park is also another best place to visit near the Usri Falls. The region is surrounded by blue water and greenery that enhances the beauty of the region. The watch tower in the park gives the mesmerizing view of the entire Giridih city.

How to Reach Usri Falls
Giridih is well connected through both railway and road. Usri Falls is located 13 km from Giridih town on the road to Tundi. Private Taxis, Tongas and Auto-rickshaws are the local transports easily available. There are regular bus services available from Giridih to other part of the town. Bus service to Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar, Asansol, Durgapur, Kolkata, Howrah, Patna, Ranchi and Jamshedpur is available. Giridih station is nearest railway station by train. Nearest airport is Birsa Munda Airport Ranchi.
