Ivy Gourd, also known as baby watermelon, little gourd, gentleman"s toes is a tropical vine whose leaves can cure scalp pimples, diabetes, heat in feet and palms, menstrual pain, vaginal pain etc. Scientific name of Ivy Gourd is Coccinia Indica. However, its leaves known as Telakucha in Bengali are used in Ayurveda to cure multiple diseases.
The expressed juice of the thick tap-root of this plant is used by the leading native Kavirajas of Calcutta as an adjunct to the metallic preparations prescribed by them in diabetes. The expressed juice is directed to be taken in doses of one tola along with a pill, every morning.
