Uppinangadi or Ubar is a religious town located in Dakshina Kannada district in the state of Karnataka. Uppinangadi is surrounded by the Kumardhara River on one side and Netravati River on other side of the town. At last the Kumardhara River joins in the Nethravati River.

Uppinangadi or Ubar is surrounded by the two surrounding rivers like the Kumardhara River and Nethravati River, rise during the rainy season and meet at the confluence. This is called the "Sangam", which is a Sanskrit word for confluence. The Sangam is known for its religious fervour. The "Sangam" or the meeting of the two rivers is a major event as people from the surrounding villages come for prayer offering. The river banks of Kumardhara River and Nethravati River witness the merge. The population of Uppinangady is 7,172.

In the year 1923, the town of Uppinangadi was washed out due to excessive flooding, and its courts were moved to Puttur. The severe flooding was occurred in the year 1974.

The town of Uppinangadi, a religious town is situated at an altitude of 53 meters. Uppinangadi is also known as "Dakshina Kashi" or the Kashi of the South. It is believed that there is also a Sangam of a third river along with the other two rivers which is known as Guptagamini River. But this river is not existed. Uppinangady has a beautiful temple along its river banks.

Uppinangadi, the spiritual town was the sole link to the Western Ghat section from the city of Mangalore, which is known locally as Mangaluru. The boats would carry goods from Mangalore and unload it at Uppinangadi. From Uppinangadi, the cargo would be transported either by bullock carts or other means of transport to places such as Hassan and Sakleshpura.

It is possible that this is the origin of the town`s name, from the same bullock carts, which is known as "gadi" carrying salt, locally known as "uppu" to other places. The place is very near to Kerala, one of the major states of South India.

Now Uppinangadi is business centre in Southern part of India and agriculture hub too. Uppinangadi the port town of religious importance has two famous temples one is Sahasralingeshwara Temple and second temple is Dakshina Kashi Laxmi Venkataramana Temple which belongs to Gouda Saraswatha Brahmin community. Most of the Goud Saraswath Brahmin`s are agriculturists.

Uppinangadi or Ubar lies on National Highway 48. It connects Mangalore (Mangaluru) to Bengaluru (formally known as Bangalore). Uppinangadi or Ubar can easily be accessible by frequent bus and taxi service from this place to Mangaluru and its taluk headquarters Puttur and also to Kukke Subramanya Temple, which is the cynosure of the place.
