History of Udaipur
The history of Udaipur began with its foundation in the year 1559 by Maharaja Udai Singh II. It served previously the capital city of Mewar Residency. On an advice of a sage, Maharana Udai Singh built a palace here, which is known as Udaipur City Palace. Udaipur saw the battle of Haldighati, which was fought against Mughal Emperor Akbar. To protect the citizens, Maharana built a 6 kilometers long city wall. After the decline of Mughal Empire, Udaipur emerged as the capital of Sisodia rulers later merged with the Princely States of India, during the rule of British Empire in India.

Geography of Udaipur
Udaipur is located at 24.58 degree north to 73.68 degree east. The average elevation of Udaipur is about 598 meters. This city is geographically positioned in the southern region of Rajasthan, near the Gujarat border. It is 403 kilometers from the capital city Jaipur.

Udaipur enjoys the tropical and sub-tropical desert climate with the maximum temperature of 42.3 degree Celsius and a minimum of 30 degree Celsius during summer and during winter maximum is 28 degree Celsius and minimum is 2.5 degree Celsius. The annual rainfall is about 61cm.

According to the Population Census in the year 2011, Udaipur had the total population of 608,426. The average literacy rate of Udaipur is 90.43 percent. The male literacy rate was 95.41 percent while the female literacy rate was 85.08 percent.

Udaipur is easily connected with Dabok Airport. Udaipur City railway station and Pratap Nagar railway station are playing a vital role in connecting Udaipur with other cities of Rajasthan. National Highway 76 and National Highway 8 are the roadways connecting Udaipur with Delhi and Mumbai.
