Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary was constituted in the year 1988. The sanctuary has an area of 194.704 Sq. Km that comprises of Mouja of Belonia, Udaipur and Sonamura Civil Sub-Division in south Tripura district. This sanctuary has a diverse floral and fauna. This sanctuary is known for Bison locally known as "Gaba". It is a home to several species. It has a numbers of perennial water rivulets and grasslands. One can find endemic kind of Bamboo called Oxtenanthera Nigrocilliate locally known as Kaillai.
Flora of Tripura Wildlife Sanctuary
Forest types of Tripura Wildlife Sanctuary are classified into four types. Tropical Semi Evergreen Forest, East Himalayan lower Bhabar sal, moist mixed deciduous Forest and Savannah wood land. There are around two hundred and thirty numbers of species of trees. Kurcha, Tulsi, Vasak, Sarpaganda, Rudraksha, Bel, Chirata, Kalamegh are the medicinal plants available there.
Fauna of Tripura Wildlife Sanctuary
Fauna of Tripura Wildlife Sanctuary houses several species like: Indian Bison, Spectacle langur, Hoolock Gibbon, Lalmukh Bandar, Capped Langur, Wild boar, Wild cat and Leopard.
The bird species found inside the sanctuary are - Pheasant tailed Jacana, Red Jungle Fowl, White breasted king Fisher, Indian Black drongo, Tailer bird, Jungle Myna, Parrot, Eagle, Hornbill and Dove.
